Miracle Noodle, Slim Noodles, Zero Calorie Noodles, Shirataki Noodles or whatever other names they come by have been circling around those doing the HC-slim protocol for some time now. I mean they sound like a perfect for a meal on phase 2 of the HCG Diet. Zero Calories, that’s right, ZEEERRROOO!
So in this weeks blog, we are going to discuss these magical Asian noodles and if you can have them while on phase two of the HC-Slim Diet.
But first up, let’s talk about what they are and how they can have zero calories.
So they come by many brands, but the actual name for these noodles are Shirataki Noodles, and they are made from the Kojac root, but sometimes referred to as the “Yam Noodle.” The noodles are composed of glucomannan and water.
The noodle itself is made entirely from soluble fibre and pass through your body undigested. Because this fibre cannot be broken down, no energy or calories can be drawn from the noodles. Which, in turn, makes them zero calories.
Think of it as eating strips of wet newspaper, if you ate enough, you would feel full, but our bodies cannot use paper as energy. The feeling of being full is enough to keep any hunger away. Of course, they taste a lot better the newspaper.
I would compare them to the noodles you would get in a Vietnamese dish but with a much softer texture. They have minimal flavour by themselves. But if you like Asia soup dishes, you will love them.
Ok, the downsides. Even though they are Zero calories, you can still have a stall or gain when you eat them. This is due to the weight of the noodle once they absorb water. They can take a little while to pass through your system, so if you if have 250 grams of noodles and those noodles absorb 800 mls of water you would have a gain of just over 1 Kg. This, of course, will go down, and most likely in a spectacular drop once the digestive process has finished. But it is something to be aware of.
There are many recipes for using the noodles, and we will be posting some in the coming weeks for you to try out. All phase 2 approved, of course.
So, in conclusion, the noodles are a great option if you are feeling hungry, and you need to have the feeling of a full stomach, especially if you are new to the diet or just starting a new round. It is not recommended to be used with every meal because it can blur the lines between a real stall and just the noodles sitting in your stomach.
So yes, they really are zero calories but be sure to check the back of the packet to make sure they are 0 calories. They can be found at most supermarkets and asian food markets.
